EVERGREEN is to merge its Far East-Mediterranean (Medway) service with its Far East-Pacific north-west coast (Pacway) service.
This will allow vessels to sail through from the Mediterranean to the west coast of North America through the Far East on one integrated schedule, to be known as the Medway-Pacway service.
According line officials, this will produce service benefits for itself and for its customers.
The immediate benefit for those shipping cargo between the Mediterranean and the Far East will be improved frequency - from sailings every 10 days to fixed-day weekly departures.
It also will allow shippers to move cargo between Vancouver and Tacoma and the Mediterranean without transshipment.
On the Pacific, it will mean Vancouver and Tacoma have a direct link with Singapore, an important factor given Singapore's importance within the Evergreen system as a hub port, and with Tacoma being a gateway to the US Double Stack Train (DST) rail services.
