Emerging markets drive Huawei 3G shipments
Huawei Technologies, a leading mainland vendor of telecommunications equipment, said 3G mobile network sales in the first half exceeded total shipments last year on strong demand from emerging markets such as China and India.
The company, which has emerged as one of the top equipment vendors in the global telecommunications market, is expected to gain market share in Europe with its newly launched multimode network solution, according to its director of wireless marketing, Lu Xingang.
UBS global telecommunications equipment analyst Gareth Jenkins estimates global telecommunications capital expenditure will weaken this year and next, with total spending declining 2.7 per cent this year and 6.5 per cent next year.
However, Huawei's shipment of WCDMA 3G technology transceivers reached 400,000 carrier sectors, a unit to measure network capacity, in the first half, compared with total shipments of 300,000 last year. Huawei was ranked second in the world in the WCDMA segment.
Huawei has won more than 150 WCDMA contracts, of which more than 130 are HSPA networks, an upgraded version of a WCDMA network with faster transmission speeds.
'Strong demand from China Unicom and some European operators contributed to the growth in the first half,' said Mr Lu.
