Devotec Solar Sound

Smartphones

When it's so hot and sunny, there's nothing better than going to the beach or the pool, to cool off and relax with your friends. And with Devotec's Solar Sound Bluetooth Stereo Travel Speakers, you can share your music while you do it.

It does just what it says on the tin: - it's a speaker system that supports Bluetooth connectivity that you charge with the power of the sun. The solar panel on the top charges an internal battery that gives up to eight hours of playback from any Bluetooth-enabled device, such as a mobile phone, or other gadgets such as netbooks and portable music players.

The Solar Sound speakers also support non-Bluetooth devices through a 3.5mm headphone cable. And if the sun's behind a cloud, you can also charge it using a USB connection to your PC.

Other features include support for the AVRCP function of Bluetooth, which allows you to fast-forward or rewind music on your player without having to take it out of your bag. However, there's no display or any other controls, so you won't be able to search your catalogue from the system.

Additionally, there is a built-in microphone, for use as a hands-free system when connected to your phone.

The Devotec Solar Sound is currently only available online for GBP49.99 (HK$640), but it should show up soon at computer mall near you.

Pros: solar charging saves on batteries, Bluetooth support means no wires, built-in microphone for hands-free operation with a mobile phone

Cons: takes longer to charge in the sun than the playback it offers, can't navigate your music library
