A 'barbaric' 24-year-old man who beheaded the body of a teenage compensated-dating girl and flushed her remains down the toilet was sentenced to life in jail yesterday.

Sentencing Ting Kai-tai after a Court of First Instance jury unanimously found him guilty of murder, Mr Justice Alan Wright said what Ting had done to the body was 'almost the worst one could possibly imagine'.

'It would be of no exaggeration to describe your conduct as barbaric,' the judge said to Ting, who stood frowning in the dock. 'You've killed a 16-year-old girl and you disposed of her body in such a despicable way.'

Ting was also sentenced to four years on one charge of preventing the lawful burial of the body of Kiki Wong Ka-mui after killing her in his Sham Shui Po flat on April 27 last year.

The ruling came as police continued a crackdown on compensated dating - a thinly disguised form of prostitution in which girls provide companionship and sex to men for gifts and money - that was launched last year and has resulted in more than 20 arrests.

But social workers said it was becoming more difficult to keep track of the girls as the operations grew more sophisticated.
