Velocities ~ [a//b]?

Gallery B, Artist Commune, Unit 12

As a title for this show, 'velocities' seems counterintuitive, even puzzling, and the tilde followed by the lexical truncation don't help much, either. But it's a fair effort by a group of performance artists from Baptist University's Academy of Visual Arts, despite the dodgy alphabetical posturing.

The notion of velocity seems less important than how fast things fade and the transient nature of life.

Several of the pieces explore memory and loss through the remnants of our actions. Ruth Chan's Kiss, for instance, has the artist applying bright red lipstick before she kisses every individual in the gallery; there's a sense of sadness as you wash away the remains of such an affectionate gesture.
