FILM producer Wong Long-wai had slapped pop singer Anita Mui Yim-fong for being rude and continuing to speak a language he did not understand, the District Court heard yesterday.

Actor consultant Wong Kam-chung continued his testimony in the trial of mechanic Wong Sik-ming, 26. The defendant has pleaded not guilty to wounding Wong Kam-chung and Wong Long-wai and to claiming membership of the Sun Yee On triad.

The wounding allegedly happened on May 5, 1992, a day after Wong Long-wai was said to have slapped Ms Mui at Take One karaoke club in Kowloon Tong.

Wong Kam-chung admitted he had lied about his injuries to a doctor.

He also admitted telling police Wong Long-wai had suggested he avoid trouble by giving a false explanation for his injuries.

He repeatedly said he could not clearly recall the slapping incident, but denied to defence counsel he was giving evidence selectively.

According to a statement he made to police, Wong Long-wai's wife, Wong Leung Siu-ying, said at the karaoke club: ''Let me find out why she [Ms Mui] was so cheeky.'' Wong Long-wai had said there was no need to do so.
