STAR TV has finalised an agreement with a local movie distributor, Media Asia Films, for the supply of more than 50 Chinese-language films during the next three years.

The films will be shown first at cinemas and then on STAR's pay-television Chinese movie channel, which will be launched in Taiwan on April 20 and in Hong Kong at an undisclosed later date.

STAR would have exclusive television rights of between three and five years for each film, according to its deputy director of Chinese broadcasting, Leung Noong-kong.

All the movies would be filmed in Cantonese, but would probably be dubbed into Mandarin for the Taiwanese audience. They would have English and Chinese subtitles.
