What is it? Omorovicza was founded in 2006 by a Budapest couple Stephen and Margaret de Heinrich de Omorovicza, who discovered the benefits of Hungary's mineral-rich waters, which have been used in the treatment of all kinds of ailments. The duo turned to a dermatology lab to look into the healing properties of the waters. The unique waters are the foundation of the brand's cutting-edge skincare range. Who are the founders? Stephen was born in Switzerland and a descendant of a noble Hungarian family. He went to Budapest to explore his Hungarian roots and ended up meeting Margaret, an American. They now live in Budapest. What's the idea behind it? The founders pioneered a concept called mineral cosmetology, which combines thermal hydrotherapy and scientific inquiry into the bioavailability of minerals. The concept also features a delivery system called the pannon complex, which enables minerals, trace elements, proteins and vitamins to break down into mineral-protein compounds in the process of biofermentation, making it easier for the skin to absorb the components and stimulating the performance of the skin's natural functions. What about the products? The range includes 15 facial products and three body products, using Hungarian thermal water and the pannon complex as the base. The founders believe that the purest components provide the best long-term results, so the range excludes the usual synthetic ingredients such as parabens, petrochemicals and silicones. Best-sellers include Queen of Hungary Mist (HK$670/100ml), a skin-rejuvenating, refreshing spray rich in key minerals that boosts the synthesis of collagen and elastin. It was originally formulated for Queen Elizabeth of Hungary in the 14th century. The thermal cleansing balm (HK$799/50ml; above) is a black facial balm with Hungarian thermal mud that clears congested pores, draws out impurities and revitalises the skin. Gold Rescue Cream (HK$2,340/50ml), is an anti-ageing cream for sensitive skin with biomimetic peptides, dill seed extract and ruby that remodels the skin to eliminate wrinkles and reduce accumulative damage to produce a glowing complexion. What else? The line is available exclusively at The Oriental Spa, the Landmark Mandarin Oriental, 15 Queen's Road Central (tel: 2132 0011). The spa also offers two of the brand's facial treatments developed by the aestheticians at the company's spa in Budapest: the Pore Refining Facial (HK$1,130/80 minutes) and the Skin Brightener (HK$1,350/80 minutes), both of which stimulate collagen production, strengthen the skin's barrier system and fight free radicals.
