Addressing a growing need among secondary school leavers for higher diploma programmes that can bridge the gap to undergraduate study, or offer enhanced career opportunities, the Chinese University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies has launched four new higher diploma programmes, adding Korean language and culture, professional accounting, health products management and Chinese to its existing syllabus of 19 programmes.
The higher diploma programme in applied Korean language and culture is the first ever Korean major sub-degree programme offered in Hong Kong. With the increased level of Korean economic activity in Hong Kong, this programme aims to equip students with knowledge of Korean language and culture to enable them to pursue careers as Korean language specialists or proceed to further study.
The higher diploma programme in health products management represents a focused response to the boom in the global health products industry and the continuing increase in demand for trained and experienced professionals in the field. The programme aims to enhance professional standards and provide talent for the industry.
The higher diploma programme in professional accounting, a field always in demand irrespective of macroeconomic conditions, has obtained exemptions on the 12 out of 16 papers from the professional examination of the Association of International Accountants.
Talks are also underway with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants on also obtaining exemptions of certain papers in those examination schemes following graduation from the programme.
Finally, the new higher diploma programme in Chinese aims to provide comprehensive training in Chinese and equip students with essential Putonghua knowledge and Chinese writing skills.
