Deputy High Court Judge Colin Mackintosh said Chan Li-fat was a danger to society, particularly to women, after Chan pleaded guilty to two charges of aggravated burglary and two of rape.

The judge said the offences 'represented the worst nightmare of women'.

Adjourning sentencing to August 25, the judge said he would consider imposing the maximum of life on Chan for breaking into the homes of the women, aged 39 and 28, tying them up and violently raping them.

Judge Mackintosh's remarks came after he had studied Chan's record of more than 20 convictions since 1979.

Chan was sent to a detention centre for indecent assault in 1979. He was jailed in 1983 for 12 years for four robberies and indecent assault. In June 1994, he was sentenced to 16 years on 12 charges of robbery, indecent assault and rape. In 2005, he was jailed for three years and four months for two burglaries.
