Film festival honours Johnnie To

South Korea's Pusan International Film Festival will pay tribute to veteran Hong Kong director Johnnie To Kei-fung, showing 10 of his films and hosting a masterclass by the 54-year-old, from October 8 to 16. Hong Kong and South Korean film critics will also take part in a panel discussion about To's works.

White powder scare at bank

Bomb disposal officers and firefighters were deployed to the third-floor office of the Bank of China (Hong Kong) in Cheung Sha Wan Road, Sham Shui Po, at around 11.50am after staff opened an envelope and found white powder inside. The powder turned out to be harmless, a police officer said. No evacuation was necessary. The envelope was a return envelope the bank sent to buyers of Lehman Brothers-linked minibonds.

The United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination will release its final observations on discrimination in Hong Kong on August 28, delegates from civil society organisations said yesterday after returning from meetings in Geneva. The delegation reported on problems in the Equal Opportunities Commission and other issues, Fermi Wong Wai-fun, executive director of Hong Kong Unison, said.
