Who started it? Summers spent on the beach in Western Australia provided designer Kristy Lawrence with inspiration for a clothing label that embodies comfort and simple luxury. After completing a diploma in interior design in Perth, Lawrence became designer, buyer and co-founder/director of fashion label Empire Rose. She left the company in 2006 and launched Flannel in 2007. Lawrence has three stores in Australia and shows at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.
Why we love it: designed for a relaxed lifestyle, Lawrence's pieces have an effortless elegance ideal for a hot climate. By mixing high-quality fabrics such as silk, embroidered cottons and lace with simple feminine shapes, her clothes are given a modern and fresh appeal.
Her latest collection features floaty kaftans, cropped trousers and layered silk dresses made from natural cottons and lace with subtle hues of white, cream and grey.
What we'd pick: the loose white bat-wing kaftan dress (right, A$875/HK$5,700) is perfect for hot summer days, while you can dress the short silk jumpsuit (left, A$390) up or down for warm, balmy evenings.
