Their rivals from 1D displayed equally outstanding skills during the day's competitions and it was not until towards the end of the day that the overall title could be decided.

Both classes collected 36 points and won an equal number of medals, except that 4C bagged three gold, two silver and two bronze; while 1D got three gold, one silver and three bronze.

The extra silver helped 4C to victory.

''I feel good about helping my class to win the overall championship,'' said 4C's Lai Kai-cheuk, who won three gold medals.

''I am also very happy about my timing in the 800 m event this year. I finished the race about four seconds faster than last year's record.'' The 17-year-old athlete also won the boys' Grade B individual title - thanks to his excellent performances in the long jump, 400 m and 800 m events.
