The new school term is just around the corner, and a trip to Hong Kong's largest outlying island, Lantau, with friends is a fun way to end the summer holidays.

Lantau Island is bigger than Hong Kong Island and you could easily spend up to a week exploring its attractions.

Lantau was originally an island of fishing villages, but large-scale infrastructure projects have transformed it in the last 10 years. It is the only outlying island that can be reached by road transport.

Lantau is home to the Hong Kong International Airport, Disneyland and Ngong Ping 360. The airport might not sound like an attraction, but on Level 6 of Terminal 2 you can find Hong Kong's only 4D cinema, and the largest of its kind in Asia. Also at Terminal 2 is the interactive sports game centre i-Sports, and you can learn more about local movies at the Asia Hollywood exhibition centre.

Meanwhile, you can discover how the world's top international airport works at the Aviation Discovery Centre.

'This place is fun!' said William Tsang, an 11-year-old boy piloting a plane in the game booths of the Aviation Discovery Centre.

Terminal 2 is also a great place to watch planes taking off and landing.
