Harbourfront committee's term extended for six months

The government said yesterday that it would extend the current term of the Harbourfront Enhancement Committee - which advises the government on development and planning relating to Victoria Harbour's surrounds - for six months until the end of February next year. A government spokesman said the extension would allow members more time to work on a report that may lead to changes to the committee and the future management of the harbourfront.

East Asian Games torch relay watchers warned about sunstroke

The Observatory has warned about the risk of heatstroke as people gather to watch the East Asian Games torch relay this afternoon. Drivers have been urged to avoid the area - Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai. The first eight legs of the relay will be broadcast live on television and government websites. Meanwhile, a 'mini torch relay' aimed at spreading the sporting spirit will continue across the city's 500 schools after today's 10-kilometre relay when schools will hold their own relays during athletic meets.

14,806 accept minibonds deal

As of Wednesday, 14,806 people who invested in Lehman Brothers-related financial products have accepted a settlement offer by banks to repurchase them at a discount. This is about 60 per cent of the roughly 25,000 customers eligible to participate in the scheme. So far, 129 customers have turned down the offer by 16 banks.
