Two boys suffered foot injuries in separate incidents yesterday when their plastic Crocs sandals became trapped in MTR escalators.
The first incident happened at 9.30am in Tin Hau when a four-year-old boy got his right foot stuck between an escalator step and the side panel. Firefighters were called to free him and he was taken to Queen Mary Hospital for treatment.
About an hour later, another four-year-old boy injured his left foot in the same way while riding the escalator down to the platform at Taikoo station with his mother.
His mother grabbed his leg and pulled him free, and he was treated at the scene by paramedics.
There are signs at MTR stations to remind passengers wearing sandals to be careful on escalators.
The chairman of the Hong Kong General Union of Lifts and Escalator Employees, Tse King-wa, said the soft texture of Crocs sandals made passengers wearing them prone to such accidents.
