Severe blow
AM I alone in thinking that the only channel worth watching on Star TV is the BBC World Service? It came as a severe blow, therefore, to learn that it is soon to be dropped from Star. We are all familiar with the ''numbers'' argument that places movies, pulp and music channels higher in the pecking order than news; however, with the removal of the BBC from Star TV we are witnessing the demise of objective and truly international news coverage in the region. Although in Hong Kong we are lucky enough to have a reasonably free press and relatively unrestricted access to information, many other countriesin the region do not benefit from these luxuries. With the removal of the BBC, on, we imagine, purely commercial grounds, Star is doing a disservice to countless people in the region hungry for unbiased news.
The first casualty in war is truth. In terms of Star TV's commercial war, this is certainly the case.
