'This is a sugar extract of beechwood and is a renewable raw material used to develop a new active molecule for skincare,' says Didier Saint-Leger, Loreal's research and development director.
'Pro-Xylane can stimulate the synthesis of two critical binding agents responsible for maintaining the integrity of the skin's support structure by ensuring skin's contouring and tissue cohesion. The synthesis of Pro-Xylane was inspired by a new, innovative chemical reaction. There are only two steps in its synthesis, making it a very clean molecule. Moreover, this reaction also enables water to be used as the only reaction solvent instead of the usual organic solvents.' Products containing Pro-Xylane include Vichy's NeOvadiol and Lancome Absolute skincare.
