American-born Mando-pop singer Will Pan has graduated from boy-next-door to hip hop star. Pan's ninth album, 007, is far more mature than his previous releases. The singer takes more daring steps than ever, composing six of the 11 tracks and working with international hip hop star Akon. The album opens with two boppy, infectious dance numbers, Pas de Deux and Limited Edition. But there seems to be little logic to the order of songs, as they are followed by the soft, slow Weightless. The song is about floating hopelessly, with nothing to keep you grounded. The Akon duet Be with You cleverly meshes English and Chinese lyrics, with the international star's distinctive vocals floating over Pan's Mandarin rap. This album is a big step in Pan's career, with the promise of further international partnerships. Love Song, My Dear and Lonely House for Rent belong to the karaoke genre - easy to sing along to and guaranteed popular by their catchy melodies. With 007, Pan finally proves he is an artist to look out for and is more than a pretty face with great dance moves.
