I'm not sure how I missed reading Not Without Salt (notwithoutsalt.com) for such a long time but now that I've found it, I've been avidly looking back through the archives of the three-year-old blog. It was formerly known as Artisan Sweets - named after blogger Ashley Rodriguez's now-closed bakery in the American state of Washington. Whereas before she blogged primarily about sweet dishes, she's now writing more about savoury foods: oven-baked onion rings (right); Swiss chard and caramelised onion tacos; red beet risotto with mustard greens and goat cheese; and how to render lard. Fortunately for her readers, she's not entirely abandoned the sweet world as she writes about enticing-looking hibiscus marshmallows, pistachio gelato and 'the perfect pie crust'. Occasionally, sweet and savoury come together in such dishes as bacon caramels and bacon-fat shortbread cookies.
