Hong Kong Chinese Women's Club College

This year, the Hong Kong Chinese Women's Club College celebrated its 30th anniversary. Various activities were organised to celebrate the landmark. Among them was the Variety Show, which took place on July 15 at the Jockey Club Auditorium at Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

The curtains rose to the refrains of a song about school life. A video entitled Building on Tradition, We Reach for New Heights followed, walking the audience through the school's history. Guest-of-honour Dr Darwin Chen and school supervisor Lucy Lau Chan So-may were accompanied by the principal and alumni in officially opening the ceremony.

Performances ranged from school bands and choral singing to verse recitals, Chinese dance and tai chi.

The highlight of the evening was a drama called Reaching for New Heights, written by alumnus Cheng Wing-kin. Hilarious scenes and lines filled the hall with laughter and the audience was captivated. A good drama always comes with an inspirational message - and this one was no exception, stressing the power of positive thinking.

A performance of the school song brought the show to a close. Everyone present was proud, knowing that we had put our best foot forward during the practice sessions so as to perfect every single aspect of the show. Experienced or not, we trained as hard as we could in order to reach the highest standards.
