Ten mainland regions reported outbreaks of swine flu over the weekend as more students fell ill.
The latest outbreak was reported in the southwestern municipality of Chongqing, where three schools reported 27 confirmed swine flu cases yesterday, according to local health authorities.
No serious or fatal cases were reported, the emergency office of Chongqing's health bureau said.
One primary school in the city was closed, another suspended classes and a branch of the local college was placed under quarantine.
More large-scale infections have been reported at schools in another eight regions - Xinjiang and the provinces of Hebei , Henan, Sichuan, Shaanxi, Shandong, Hunan, Jiangsu and Guangxi .
Xinjiang reported its first case on Saturday. By yesterday, 42 more cases had been reported, all of whom had had close contact with the first patient, who was a middle-school student, Xinhua reported.
In the northern province of Hebei, 31 people were confirmed with swine flu at three universities in a development zone of Langfang city.
