Motorist who challenged traffic law faces court
A motorist who last year challenged the constitutionality of a traffic law that required car owners to disclose the driver's identity yesterday appeared in Kowloon City Court. Journalist Richard Latker was charged with one count of failing to give the name, address and licence number of the driver after his car had been caught on camera jumping a red light in July 2007. He was acquitted last year of the charge on the grounds that the law was unconstitutional, but the Court of Appeal overturned the ruling in January. The Court of Final Appeal in May refused Latker's request for a review. Magistrate Hui Chun-sing adjourned the case to October 5.
