What is it? Founder Terry de Gunzburg left a 15-year career at Yves Saint Laurent to start her eponymous range of high quality make-up. The brand is touted as concentrated make-up with active ingredients, and it uses pure pigments. 'I found the world of luxury slipping into standardisation,' she says. 'The idea was to take the same structures and the same standards of perfection, know-how and luxury as those of haute couture.' What are the brand's strengths? Having come from a family of scientists, de Gunzburg studied medicine before quitting to pursue art and make-up. Under the tutelage of the famed Carita sisters, who started the House of Beauty in Paris, the young apprentice worked on a photo shoot for Vogue magazine's haute couture edition. She made her mark by painting her model's face with 'an impeccable mouth, an invisible complexion, full, separate lashes', she says. In her 10 years with Rosy and Maria Carita, de Gunzburg made up top models, working women and movie stars. In 1985, she joined YSL and catered to a more international market, eventually inventing one of YSL's most popular products, the Touche L'Eclat stick concealer. Now, when de Gunzburg isn't on assignment at a high-end fashion show, she is creating her own make-up formulas with botanical extracts, 'rare' pigments and advanced technology. Most of her make-up focuses on creating flawless complexions and enhancing them with bold colours. What products does it offer? By Terry includes product lines for the eye, lip and complexion, plus a range of make-up tools. There is also the Rose collection with pink moisturisers, face masks and make-up products containing rose extracts. Moving up is the elite VIP Expert range of make-up products, which come with in-built brushes. How much do the products cost? According to de Gunzburg, her two best-selling products are the VIP Expert's Light-Expert Perfecting Foundation Brush (below), which sells for HK$485/17.5ml, and the Baume de Rose lip and cuticle moisturiser, which sells for HK$485/10g. Available at Joyce stores from mid-September.
