Students welcome celebrities' sound advice and tasty treats
When celebrities show up at events mouthing clich?s such as 'believe in yourself' and 'work hard to chase your dreams', reactions can be lukewarm. But not so with the students at the Fresh Fish Trader's School, who have faced far too many hardships to be cynical.
The Tai Kok Tsui public school, attended by students from underprivileged backgrounds, has been in danger of being closed for several years after barely meeting the Education Bureau's minimum enrolment rule.
The students, who often go to school hungry, were more than welcoming when actors Eric Tsang Chi-wai (pictured) and Annie Liu Sum-yau showed up with a healthy supply of mooncakes courtesy of Kee Wah Bakery.
When he wasn't passing out mooncakes, Tsang told the students about his own poor background. He attended a neighbouring school in the same district as a child, and urged the students to study hard.
This month, Kee Wah Bakery will be sponsoring a reward programme that sees free breakfasts for all students and mooncakes for those who complete all of their assigned homework.
After the event, Tsang revealed he has more plans for charity.
