Renaissance College student Louis Kang Jeong-seuk has proved that you don't have to be an adult to do something about the environment.
On August 30, the 17-year-old led a group of 14 divers to Tolo Harbour where they removed thousands of kilograms of discarded fishing nets. His actions are a great example of how you can put your passion into action for the benefit of the planet.
It took Louis almost six months to organise his Ghost Net Clearance project, but the preparation was far from traumatic.
'I'm doing what I really like, so I feel no stress but lots of fun,' the high school student says.
'Diving is where my passion lies. The environment is what I care for. Therefore being in charge of this project is doubly rewarding and meaningful for me.'
Louis started diving with his family and quickly fell in love with the sea. But on a dive in the Philippines when he was 14, where he hoped to see beautiful underwater scenery, Louis was shocked to see a coral reef bleached white by pollution and very little sea life.
'I felt like I was the only living creature in the water. It was scary - it was terrifying,' he says. He then realised he wanted to do something to protect the oceans.
