THE China Ocean Shipping (Group) Co (COSCO) will continue its expansion programme this year, according to president Chen Zhongbiao.

   He was speaking at a reception held in Xiamen to mark the official opening of Xiamen Ocean Shipping Co, a COSCO subsidiary.

  Mr Chen is also chairman of Xiamen Ocean Shipping Co.

  The newly established company operates a luxury passenger ship and two Capesize bulk carriers.

  The Min Nan, which can accommodate about 700 passengers, runs between Hong Kong and Xiamen.

  Company officials said plans were being drawn up for the ship to operate on the Xiamen-Taiwan route when direct shipping links between the two countries will open.

  The 5,258 deadweight-tonne ship, with a service speed of 19 knots, was bought from a French company which operated it on the routes between Britain and France.



COSCO to continue to expand
