Unregistered dentist fined
Wu Ching-hing, 61, was fined HK$5,000 yesterday for practising dentistry without registration and for illegal possession of medicine. He was also given two three-month concurrent jail sentences, both suspended for two years. Wu was arrested in May after examining a police decoy's mouth with dental instruments and prescribing medicine.
Masked trio rob grocer
Three men wearing face masks stole HK$30,000 from a grocery shop in Fung Yau Street East, Yuen Long, after tying up five men at knifepoint. They fled in a car driven by a fourth man. In a separate incident, a man was beaten with wooden bars and robbed of HK$8,000 and personal belongings by 10 youths in Chun Yin Square, Yuen Long, at about 3.30am. He was treated at Pok Oi Hospital.
Fare dodger assaults cabbie
A man, 37, was arrested after refusing to pay his taxi fare and assaulting the cabbie. He boarded the taxi in Jordan and asked to be taken to Tai Po. When the cab stopped outside Wan Tau Tong Estate at 1am, he refused to pay and got out. The driver tried to stop him but was punched. He called police, who said they detected the smell of alcohol on the passenger.
