Portable media players already come with a whole lot of features that include Wi-fi connectivity, HD support, and even downloadable games and applications. It's hard to think how this can be improved upon. One way is to add in a standard operating system, like French company Archos has done with its Archos 5 Internet tablet, which now comes with Google's Android. With the Archos 5 Internet tablet, the company has combined what it does best - making high-capacity, high-definition players - with the application and usability of Android. Like the standard Archos 5 player, the new tablet will provide HD video playback at 720p, with a high-resolution screen (800x480 pixels) that offers almost three times the resolution of the iPod. To access the internet, you can select from the built-in Wi-fi connection, or use Bluetooth to link to your phone's 3G connection. There is also a built-in GPS module for location and mapping services. The Archos 5 Internet Tablet will come pre-installed with applications, including a web browser and e-mail client, as well as Deezer (internet radio), e-buddy (instant messaging), Twidroid (Twitter) and QuickPedia (Wikipedia). And of course, with Android, you will be able to download a whole lot more once you're connected to the internet. The Archos 5 Internet tablet is available with up to 32 MB of Flash memory and a SD Card slot, or in a hard-disk model featuring up to 500GB of memory. Prices are expected to start around HK$2,500-HK$3,000. Pros: large, high-definition display, Google Android OS for applications, built-in internet access via Wi-fi, GPS Cons: larger than most players, no keyboard, no camera
