Ocean Park is hoping at least to double its share of mainland visitors at its Halloween events this year after putting more effort into promoting the Western festival.

Vivian Lee Ling-fung, the park's marketing director, said that in the past about 2 per cent of guests at its Halloween Bash were mainlanders.

'We hope to increase this to about 5 to 6 per cent this year,' she said. 'We've worked with travel agents, especially those in Guangdong, and the Tourism Board to promote our Halloween events this year.'

Tickets for the events - which will run from Friday to November 1 - have been on sale since July. Lee said the park had seen double-digit growth in the number of tickets sold compared with the same period last year.

Ocean Park spent a seven-digit figure to promote the event this year, 30 per cent of it on the internet, to 'attract more young people'.

It will stage eight new haunted houses, 13 new shows and 80 daily performances, and about 400 'ghosts' will roam the park.
