Young Chinese Sensation Yuja Wang in Piano Recital
HK City Hall Concert Hall
Sept 28, 8pm
Touted by international critics as one of the brightest rising stars in the classical world, Beijing-born, New York-based pianist Wang Yuja remains nonplussed by all the 0attention.
'It's like I'm at the centre of a volcano. But for me, nothing is really going on except everyone sees [the eruption] from the outside,' the 22-year-old says. 'It's kind of weird.'
Still, there is no denying that Wang (above), who will be in town for a recital next week, is a force to be reckoned with. Her playing is said to possess the discipline and precision of a mature artist and prompted a critic in The San Francisco Chronicle to write: 'To listen to her in action is to re-examine whatever assumptions you may have had about how well the piano can actually be played.'
Wang has performed with orchestras including the Chicago Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony and the NHK Symphony, and under the baton of conductors including Claudio Abbado, Charles Dutoit, Michael Tilson-Thomas and Pinchas Zukerman.
Wng says she enjoys working with an orchestra and performing solo.
