Our hotel has a leadership performance process which is a collaborative online process designed to align individual business goals with Marriott Lodging's business needs and to help associates (employees) develop their key competencies for success. The performance process is conducted each year in three phases - goal setting, mid-term review and final review. During each phase of the evaluation the associates share their views and discuss with their managers the progress of goals and development areas. It is an effective way of evaluating performance.

Sandra Ng, director of human resources, JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong

Performance management is an ongoing process in our company whereby employees and their leaders collaborate to ensure they reach their highest potential. Under performance management process (PMP), personal and organisational goals are mutually defined. The system ensures employees are developing personally and professionally, and have clear expectations of how their performance is being appraised. The PMP is linked to people management processes. An example of this is how the PMP conversations affect engagement by providing employees with a clear understanding of how they are being assessed and compensated.
