Teresa Carpio Hello (TCI Music)
After years of focusing on live concerts, Teresa Carpio has come back to her roots as a cover singer of contemporary Western hits with her first studio album since 2004 and her first mainstream English-language release since 1990. But the much-anticipated effort is a hit-and-miss affair, with the diva hitting all the right notes in some songs but sounding mediocre in songs that leave little room for reinvention.
The album is again a testament to Carpio's unique ability to make the songs her own, but the track list leaves a lot to be desired, with selections such as It Must Have Been Love and You're Still the One hard to breathe new life into.
Yet even though Carpio falls flat in some of the songs, it's only because our expectations are high.
Overall, Hello is a welcome comeback for those who want to hear what the new Carpio sounds like.
