Cartoons that make me happy
Japanese cartoonist Yoshito Usui died after a hiking accident earlier this month. His most famous comic book is Crayon Shin-chan, which was first published in 1987.
It follows the adventures of a five-year-old boy and his parents, neighbours and friends. I first started reading the comic in primary school. 
I love it because it is incredibly funny and entertaining. Whenever I am unhappy, I read the comic because it  cheers me up. Some people may say Crayon Shin-chan is not suitable for children, but I disagree.
It helps us  relax after a busy day and the stories are meaningful and heartwarming. 
I was very sad to hear about Usui's death. I hope one of his apprentices will take over, but I think the style will be  different.  But I will still buy the comic because I believe Usui's spirit will live on.

A warning for  greedy people
Former Taiwan president Chen Shui-bian has been sentenced to life imprisonment for corruption. This is a warning for greedy people who should think twice before they pocket money that has been illegally obtained.
Students can also learn from Chen's experiences. When you're being praised for your good exam results, don't  forget about your health. When you're making money from shares, don't forget the investment can make you homeless. Such thinking helps to avoid worst-case scenarios.
Chen has shamed Taiwan and   he never thought he would have to  go to jail. Our earth is Heaven but some people  make it  an ugly place.

The sad plight of child soldiers
I am writing in response to the article '250,000 child soldiers fighting worldwide: UN' (Young Post, September 17). The story was accompanied by a photograph of a child soldier who was carrying a gun. 
I sympathise with the plight of these children who are being exploited by armed groups. Civil wars in Asia, the Middle East and Africa have left millions of people homeless while a lot of children are fighting for rebel groups.
The youngsters are very unfortunate because they live in a world of violence. Their hearts are filled with revenge and they  are taught to deal with disputes through brutal methods.
According to the article, the United Nations is concerned that children are also being used as suicide bombers by extremist groups. 
Children are innocent. They are being manipulated by terrorists  to achieve what they want.
Children affected by war are having a terrible time. It's time to stop this suffering.

Gearing up for exam
When I was a Form Six student, I took part in various extra-curricular activities and enjoyed chatting and playing with my friends. I thought the A-levels were a long way off and having a good time was the most important thing.
But now that I am in Form Seven, I have realised that I have to pay more attention to my studies. There are tests and quizzes almost every day, and many of my classmates study until very late at night.
It's time for me to work hard to get a university place and have a bright future.
I believe I  will be  absorbed in my studies very soon because I have many supportive classmates and teachers.

Waste problem
There is massive wastage in Hong Kong and we cannot just blame the government. We should all take responsibility for this situation. We should teach children about the importance of conservation. Also, we should practise what we preach. Otherwise, we will be in serious trouble.
