A 15-year-old boy who helped provide ketamine to five Sheung Shui school pupils, who were later taken to hospital feeling ill, has been sent to a rehabilitation centre.
The boy, who cannot be publicly named because of his age, had pleaded guilty to doing an act for the purpose of trafficking in a substance he believed to be a dangerous drug.
The incident occurred in February, when five girls aged 13 and 14, from Sheung Shui Government Secondary School, bought ketamine during lunchtime.
They complained of dizziness and were sent to North District Hospital in Sheung Shui.
Magistrate Don So Man-lung, sentencing at Fanling Court yesterday, said the teenager knew what he was doing and that it was wrong. A lawyer had earlier argued that the defendant's level of intelligence was equivalent to that of an 11-year-old.
A report indicated that he had been isolated by others and had been described as mentally deficient while he was in custody. As the report was read out in court, he cried.
