HK firm gets stake in Hummer
Hong Kong investor Suolang Duoji will get a 20 per cent stake in Hummer. Suolang indirectly owns a stake in Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery, which signed a deal with GM to buy the firm. Tengzhong will get an 80 per cent stake. But China's Ministry of Commerce said yesterday it had not received any application from Tengzhong over the deal. AP, Xinhua
Woman dies giving birth
The Department of Health will look into the death of a 33-year-old mother from Shenzhen who died after giving birth to a baby boy at the Baptist Hospital in Kowloon Tong. The mother was admitted to the hospital on Friday night but her condition deteriorated. Her doctor then performed a Caesarian section, but the mother subsequently died at around 11pm.
Strike, protest at Link rent rise
About 500 fresh market vendors and shopping centre retailers marched to the government headquarters in Central yesterday to protest against The Link's high rents. Dozens of stallholders in Lok Wah fresh market, Ngau Tau Kok, staged a four-hour strike from noon over rent rises of 20 to 100 per cent.
