I was surprised that US President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize a few days ago. I don't think he should have been awarded the prize.
The committee said Obama had done a lot to improve relations between nations, had striven for peace and given people hope for the future.
Perhaps these are things he is working on, but it's too early to give him this honour.
Also, I do not think the prize should be a gesture of encouragement; it should be given to someone who did well in the past. What happens if Obama suddenly resigns? Where would this leave the Nobel Peace Prize committee?
As Obama has about three years of office left, I think the prize should have been awarded to him after the end of his presidency.
