By the time you're halfway through your exquisitely seared foie gras, you already know you want to come back. Be it the excellent food, the commendable service or the detailed decor, there is something about The Drawing Room that makes it instantly loveable.

A large glass window allows diners a glimpse of the chefs at work in the kitchen, and on the platform in front of the window are armchairs and sofas set up to look like a small drawing or waiting room, in keeping with the restaurant's name and theme. Culinary director and owner Bombana Umberto spends the majority of his time out of the kitchen making sure that the diners are enjoying themselves, and the overall effect is of a warm and inviting environment.

The menu offers diners a choice of a four- or five-course meal (HK$620/HK$780), with individual courses available a la carte. Must-try appetisers include the impossibly tender quail and foie gras, with oven-roasted figs (HK$200), and the Australian lobster medallion, with veal tail and trumpet zucchini (HK$200). The crunchy zucchini provides nice texture alongside the juicy lobster. Most notable among the pasta options is the angel hair, with sea urchin and cherry tomatoes (HK$240). The sea urchin was fresh and creamy, and sea asparagus was included for a refreshing burst of flavour. The mascarpone ravioli, with duck ragout and porcini mushroom (HK$240), is also worth a mention, but make sure to pair it with a lighter main course later. The roasted rabbit (HK$350), for example, is portioned nicely, seasoned with rosemary, fennel seeds and black olives and accompanied with roasted cherries for a light bite. The tender slices of baked Challans duck (HK$350) also make for a light but tasty dish. For those with a heartier appetite, the trio of wagyu short rib, wagyu beef tenderloin and ox tongue, with whipped potato and red wine sauce (HK$350), is an unforgettable melt-in-your-mouth experience. Lastly, we highly recommend the lemon mille-feuille with citrus fruit combination (HK$90) - the creamy, sweet and zesty dessert is the perfect way to end a meal. The Drawing Room has an extensive list of Italian wines and some carefully chosen French and New World wines. In a festive mood? Their signature bellini made with fresh peaches and Prosecco is a definite crowd-pleaser.
