Fans will feel it was worth the six-month wait for the release of Khalil Fong's Timeless. In his latest album, the singer-songwriter - also known as the 'soul boy' - rearranges classic oldies from different eras in his own unique way, offering a fresh perspective on his talents.
The title of the album itself is a good indication of what the listeners can expect from the US-born singer. It contains 10 timeless cover songs, including favourites from Faye Wong (Red Bean), Stevie Wonder (You are the Sunshine of My Life) and Michael Jackson (Bad).
Fong's Canto-pop debut also features another all-time favourite, Kuang Chao, which was originally sung by Susanna Kwan. Other tracks include Georgia on my Mind (Ray Charles), Wonderful Tonight (Eric Clapton), Moon River (Andy Williams), and Remember, a Mandarin song by Taiwanese pop diva A-Mei.
Timeless may not be the follow-up to his previous release, Orange Moon, that some might have hoped for - fans have come to rely on Fong for his own original compositions - but it showcases his talents as a singer.
But there is no denying Fong's hard work on each of the 10 tracks, especially Kuang Chao. His accent may not be perfect but it shows that he is doing his best to bring variety to his music.
