Two Sha Tin College students shaved their heads yesterday in the name of the Hong Kong Cancer Fund.

The brave act was the brainchild of Fong Ling-ling, 16, one of the organisers of Cancer Week activities at her school.

'I really like my new hairstyle but I might have to go hat shopping as winter is coming,' Ling-ling laughed. 'I think this is a really meaningful thing to do, showing support to cancer patients.

'We aim to raise about HK$50,000 and we have about HK$30,000 so far. Our school will hold a charity rock concert and the money will go to the fund.

'Teachers, friends and other students have been very supportive of the event.'

One of her supportive friends is Monique Attrux, 16, who joined her in their lunch break to cut off her below-the-shoulder locks.

'It took me ages to grow it to that length,' Monique, who is in Year 13, said. 'But I am very happy to show my support for cancer patients. I understand that women going through chemotherapy lose their hair. I am donating my hair to make wigs.
