Alex Wong Yu-on is back to the scene of the crime tonight at Happy Valley and Hongkong Superstar gets his infrequent chance to make a mark in the American Club Challenge Cup (1,000m).
Hongkong Superstar (Douglas Whyte) has the decent steadier of 133 pounds to carry, but he has shown himself to be virtually a one-trick pony. A horse with some breathing problems - who doesn't like to stop and start - is suited at this course and distance because the pace is usually hot.
As a result, it is the only trip he has won and the only one where he has consistently been a threat.
In four starts at the Valley minimum trip, Hongkong Superstar might be counted unlucky not to be unbeaten after winning two and finishing second twice.
One of the seconds was a flashing finish to be beaten in a photo by Island Speed after giving him a monstrous start, and the other a moral victory last February when the winner, Cannonise, badly hampered Hongkong Superstar. It cost him both first and second placings before he wound up second after a successful protest.
So overlook his performance on opening day at Sha Tin because this is the race where he is a serious player and the fates could not have been kinder in delivering Hongkong Superstar gate two on the 'C' course.
With plenty of pace outside him and the run-on horse Gunner Mac (Weichong Marwing) underneath him, Hongkong Superstar should be straight into his favourite trailing spot on the rail.
