Illustration artist Lun Wong (aka 1KStyles) was supposed to launch his first exhibition, Pop Attack!, a week ago at Club M1NT. However, he was under another kind of attack. 'I came down with swine flu. I just thought I had the regular flu. I was working my butt off and went to the hospital one day because I just felt really tired. They stuck this thing up my nose and a couple of hours later said, 'Yep, you have it'. It put me back a week.' Now his street-style digital portraits of various pop icons will go on display starting tonight with a party and charity auction. His bout of flu can't compare to the plight of one of his friends, who has developed something even more frightening: cancer. That's what the three canvases auctioned this evening are for. 'I found out a few months ago my friend had it and will need a bone-marrow transplant. It's HK$3,000 for each test and, to find a match, a lot of tests need to be done, so that's where part of the money is going,' Wong (pictured) said. At least his images should have wide appeal. Pop Attacks! include iconic faces Bruce Lee, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley. 'Rather than something obscure, I want to have subjects people can relate to. These icons have always influenced me and I feel they pushed boundaries.' The party begins at 9pm but Wong's works are at Club M1NT for three months.
