'In recent years, there has been confusion arising from the telecommunications industry's marketing practices,' said Stephen Chau Kam-kun, the chief technology officer at SmarTone-Vodafone.

'Operators have promoted the theoretical speed of their networks instead of the typical speeds that subscribers will experience.'

Chau said SmarTone-Vodafone, unlike its local competition, had adopted a new approach.

'With our HSPA+ network upgrade, we're clearly stating the typical mobile broadband speeds,' he said.
