Who started it? This hip jewellery line was started by style icon Nicole Richie and jeweller Pascal Mouawad earlier this year.

Richie needs little introduction, being the celebrity daughter of American music legend Lionel Richie.

Swiss-born Mouawad is a fourth-generation jeweller, whose family was known in Europe for its haute joaillerie featuring diamonds and cutting-edge design. Upon graduating from high school, Pascal moved to Los Angeles where he received a gemology degree from the Gemological Institute of America and an MBA from UCLA. He moved to New York in 1999 to expand the family business but returned to Hollywood in 2006, where he started collaborating with high-profile celebrities on custom-made pieces.

The line has been spotted on celebrities such as Richie's pal Paris Hilton and Madonna.

Why we love it: the line takes inspiration from several eras and the jewellery ranges from sleek minimal styles to funky art deco-inspired pieces. The duo use a variety of materials - leather, silk strings, chains, gold-plated metals and stones such as onyx - to create jewellery that is feminine but with the Native American, boho vibe that Richie prefers.

Many styles are versatile and can be worn as bracelets, necklaces, belts and even headbands. Best of all, the line is high in style without a high price tag to match.
