On a day when it was raining long-priced winners, The Only Kid helped restore some semblance of balance to the day when he stepped up to 1,800m in the sixth event and scored. The five-year-old has been consistent throughout, but had been looking somewhat one-paced lately. Going up to the 1,800m for the first time, his turn of foot was back and so was success in a hard-fought finish with Horace's Legend (Darren Beadman). 'He had not run beyond 1,600m before, and he really appreciated the longer race,' said jockey Gerald Mosse. 'This was my first ride on him but he seems a nice horse, he tries hard and the luck of the race went our way.' That defeat was part of a difficult day for Beadman, who failed to land a victory, and then found himself with a careless-riding ban on heavily-supported Mighty Winner in the fourth. Beadman received a two-day ban, but the suspension has been deferred until after the November 22 meeting.
