Hong Kong has set a new Guinness World Record by creating a painting that stretches almost one kilometre at Hong Kong Wetland Park in Tin Shui Wai.
A total of 2,041 students and members of the public gathered on October 17 to create the 959.35-metre-long, 1.2m-wide painting on the theme 'Birds and Wetlands'.
A government spokesman said the park received a Guinness World Records certificate on October 30. The artwork set a new world record for the longest painting done by a group of people, breaking the previous mark of 599.94m set in Pune, India.
The painting was created to mark the start of the four-month promotional programme for the World Wetlands Day 2010.
Part of the painting and the Guinness World Records certificate are on display at the park.
Visitors can also take part in a series of events on wetland ecology, such as the Bird Watching Guided Tour and the Know More About Birds Thematic Exhibition.
