Who started it? British designer Margaret Turner has been creating jewellery for more than 30 years. She studied design at the Central School of Art and Crafts (now called Central St Martins) in London in the 1970s and her graduation collection immediately sold out. Initially, Turner sold her work through art galleries and at exhibitions, including London's Goldsmiths' Hall, where she won the 'Gold Crown' award for three consecutive years. In 1982, she set up her workshop and a retail outlet in Salisbury, Wiltshire, where she is still based. Her pieces feature in the permanent collections of European museums and her jewellery has been bought by the likes of Trudie Styler, Prince Charles +and Princess Michael of Kent.
Why we love it: Turner's couture jewel- lery is luxurious and modern, using classic materials in a contemporary, wearable way. The pieces are handmade and sculptural, inspired by the human form, giving them an organic look.
'I always see jewellery in the whole ... It is a piece of art; it is a piece of mundane day to day. It is totally flexi- ble,' she says.
Her current collection includes necklaces, rings, bangles and earrings made from 18-carat yellow and white gold, and detailed with diamonds, pearls and other precious stones. Standouts include textured silver bangles that resemble molten lava and the triple-strand semi-precious stone necklace decorated with starfish and seashells made from gold.
What we'd pick: the Tangle pearl necklace (above left; HK$169,100) and matching earrings (HK$42,300), inspired by pulled sugar. And the more casual Molten silver bangle (HK$7,000) and rings (both above right; HK$10,300 to HK$21,750).
Where can you get it? Margaret Turner will be hosting an exclusive trunk show from 11am to 7pm, this Wednesday to Friday, at Kee Club, 6/F, 32 Wellington Street, Central, tel: 2810 9000.
