Michael Chang Chun-wai may well be waving goodbye to Sichuan Hero, despite being the first trainer to get him across the line first yesterday - at least he hopes so. Olivier Doleuze rode a ground-saving path on the six-year-old, whose form includes a heart irregularity and two previous trainers, to get up in time to win the opening all-weather-track mile. But Chang is hoping that Sichuan Hero's owner will retire the troubled gelding and look for a replacement rather than take false hope from this success. 'Health problems have really limited this horse and I will suggest to the owner to retire him and look for another horse with more prospects,' he said. 'Today he had everything possible in his favour - a good draw, a low rating, a weak race and a good ride from Olivier and he won by a head. It won't be any easier for him now that he has won,' the trainer added. Sichuan Hero first landed at the Paul O'Sullivan stable in 2007 and had 11 ordinary starts before moving to John Size for two runs.
