The family of Chief Secretary Henry Tang Ying-yen plans to privatise and sell its majority-held technology company Meadville Holdings to Nasdaq-listed TTM Technologies.

As a commercial deal, it had nothing to do with the political ambitions of Henry Tang, said Meadville executive chairman Tom Tang Chung-yen, Henry Tang's brother.

'I cannot comment if Henry Tang will run for Hong Kong chief executive. You have to talk to his personal assistant.'

Efforts to reach Henry Tang's office were unsuccessful.

'If Henry Tang is going to be Hong Kong chief executive, it's better for the Tang family to get rid of this listed company,' said a securities analyst. 'There has been concern recently over potential conflicts of interest between government officials and business in Hong Kong.'

Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen has been criticised recently for launching a policy address initiative to encourage the use of energy-saving bulbs, as the light-bulb business of his elder son's father-in-law would benefit from the increased sales.
