Enjoy art for itself

I THINK it's a shame that the article ''Art at any price'' (Sunday Morning Post Magazine, March 27) concentrated on the investment/price angle of Hong Kong's art market. With the exception of Allan Zeman's ''falling in love with'' Iu Sheung-Sheung's work at Plum Blossoms Gallery, there was no mention made of the emotional or spiritual value of fine art.

A wise collector follows more than the three tips in the side story, ''Primer on buying art''. A buyer must always ask himself: ''Do I like it? Does it 'speak' to me? If it loses its value, will I still be proud to display it?'' A work of art appreciated by its owner is priceless. PENEE M. THORPE Hong Kong
